The two wired keyboards arrived quickly, with all keys working. The individual key-lighting lets me use my MacBook at night with no room lights and monitor darkened (by "invert colors") for increased natural melatonin, thus better circadian rhythm for sleep. It's narrow with no unnecessary extra keys on right side, so (see photo) I can have mousepad on left and Magic Trackpad on right, close together for better ergonomics. For these reasons, it's an excellent functional keyboard for the ways I work.
OTOH, in two years I've ruined two of these by getting tiny amounts of water (like two drops!) on the keyboard. Therefore I'll be more careful, AND if this ever happens again I'll immediately unplug the USB-A so there is no electricity to cause short-circuiting; and instead of trying to "blot the water" with tissue paper, I'll turn it upside down and let it dry for a long time, for two days "just to be sure." (btw, I invented this procedure and then checked with Perplexity AI, and it said "yes, this is what experts recommend") Also, I'm viewing the purchase as a "rental" with a cheap per-month fee, that's worth it because the KB helps me work more productively due to its functionality.
Good MacBook keyboard I have a 2016 MacBook Air, and I like that you don’t have to charge or connect to Bluetooth, and that it immediately started to work right when plugging into my MacBook. For the price, so worth it!
Exactly what I was looking for. Minus the wired approach, I really just wanted a backlit keyboard. & this does the job perfectly. its slightly raised with great tactile feedback. Satisfied customer here!
Best keyboard I've EVER had! This is the BEST keyboard I've ever had! I've tried so many different mechanical keyboards over the years thinking that I'd get better tactile response and be able to type faster but not the case. This keyboard is a steal at this price! I love the response, quietness, back light, and that it matches my laptop keyboard size and layout which then makes it super easy for me to transition from my office desk to just working on my laptop.I should have bought this keyboard YEARS ago, I would have saved so much money on trying all of the others out there!A must buy. Love it!
Good, but could be a whole lot better Unlike other reviewers, I like the compactness of this keyboard. But there are a number of things that could be better. The USB cable is JUST barely long enough to go from my keyboard tray, to the hole in the desktop straight back of the keyboard, and up to my computer, which now HAS to be in the center of the desktop. This needs to be much longer. The next thing is that there is no memory setting on the brightness. If you restart or shut down your computer, you will have to reset the brightness using the toggle button. Then there is the annoying keyboard power LED. On a keyboard with a backlight, this is totally unnecessary. Even on non backlit keyboards, I think this has gone by the wayside. It is distracting and makes one think the CAPS lock is on. Then there is the space around the keys. Clearly this unit will not survive a spill. It needs a keyboard cover to go over it. And finally there are the multiple back lighting LED's that shine through these open spaces, so that no matter where you move your head, there will always be at least one shinning into your eyes when you look down. So why the five star review? Who reads anything but the five and one star reviews? It is good, so it doesn't deserve a one star. But it could be so much better with just a few tweaks. If you can live with these faults, then go for it.
Great feeling and good light Possibly one of my favourite scissor type keyboards.Reminds me a lot of 2013/2014 macbooks, really comfortable to use, lightning is good and though it would be nice having more lightning levels it doesn't bother me that much. A great addition is the green led lights indicating caps/power/lock, really clear to see whats going on.Tone is a bit darker than the macbook aluminum, guess its closer to the space black ones.
The perfect keyboard for mac users Excellent product from Macally.Slim and heavy with nice typing sense.Value for money. For me is the perfect keyboard for mac users !
Thin AWESOME lightweight keyboard!!! Such a beautiful thin lightweight keyboard. I have so much space in my desk due to it! You can see how small it is from my picture
Works beautifully for me... Size is exactly what I was looking for (small).Backlighting is useful (not too bright, not too dim).Works perfectly with my Mac.I wanted a wired keyboard. The keys have a nice amount of resistance without being hard to type or squishy. As an added bonus, they have a slightly convex shape that is quite nice. The only possible downside is that this is not a "silent" keyboard. The sounds aren't overly loud, and don't bother me, but if you're looking for a really "soft touch" keyboard, this might not be the one you're looking for.
Great small basic keyboard I needed a small backlit keyboard that was as close to an Apple magic keyboard as possible. This is that keyboard. It’s not made of aluminum but by no means does it feel cheap. It’s exactly what I needed for the space I needed it for. Would for sure buy this keyboard again.
As good as it gets for $40, or even twice the price. Let's get the 'bad' out of the way first:• The description shows 'integrated "kickstand"'. It's misleading. Would your bicycle's kickstand stick out all the time? The keyboard is designed to sit at an angle and is not adjustable.• There is no pass-through USB port, so either use a RF/Bluetooth mouse or use up another USB port.• The paint job sure looks like anodized aluminum, but it's painted injection-molding plastic. Nothing wrong with that, because the keyboard does dit squarely on the table surface and it's solid.• The illumination on the bottom and top row are not as bright as the ones in between. At a glance, I thought it was the font being smaller, but if you look at the cursor arrows, you, which has a larger glowing area, you will notice it's indeed dimmer. Again, not a huge deal.• It's a bit weird that the top and bottom keycaps are convex, but the more-frequently-used QWERTY keys are concave.• I wish the cable were detachable, because the 5' cable is still too long for my situation.• I wish the three indicator lights were shielded from the normal white LED, because those lights should be either dark or green, but because they are not shielded, it's slowing white.• Unlike the numeric-keypad-less mechanical keyboard, where the cable could be routed to the center, left, or right, this one comes out of the right (located in the back, between the F9 and F10 keys). Maybe a drawback for some. Now, the good:• I have been typing on the Macally keyboard writing the above. I can say that all of the keys have consistent feel. I remember buying another S-brand that has aluminum construction, but a few keys were either stuck or the pressure was inconsistent. This one is 40% less in price and works much better.• The function keys and layout are identical to the Mac's, so it operates identically as the regular Apple keyboard.• The four rubber feet are high quality and keep the keyboard firmly on the surface. They are 1" wide each.• May I say 'It just works and works well'.• A good Apple alternative, for those who want a USB keyboard.
The keyboard has a great feel and I can type fast on it. I have a PC for work, and wanted a wired keyboard. This works really well and I have had no issues.
This keyboard is indistinguishable from my old Apple keyboard... even by my iMac! Weeks after plugging it in I kept getting "low battery" popups for my keyboard. That's because the iMac couldn't tell the difference between my back-lighted wired Macally and my old unlighted wireless apple keyboard. I solved the problem by removing the batteries from the apple one! Thanks Macally for a great product.
No Batteries Primarily purchased to replace 2 Bluetooth keyboards for my Twins Mac Mini's Got tired of always replacing batteries in those things. These are wired and work well. Relatively immune to 8 year old kids abuse.
I LOVE this Keyboard I'm using this keyboard with a mid-2010 MacBook Pro and it's everything I was hoping for.I love older computers. I grew up with them, I find nostalgia in their use makes me happy - I can also crack open a notebook case and change out an aging battery without needing an engineering degree and specialized tools. Plan on using it as a portal to the home server, but I wasn't exactly crazy about continually using the stock keyboard. "What if I could expose a different keyboard to cheeto dust and cookie crumbs instead?!" I thought to myself before embarking on the search for something which could take the brunt of my snacking abuses...MacAlly has been around for a long time, and this keyboard shows why.The keys are great with just enough give and "clickyness" I don't feel like I'm typing on a piece of cheap garbage. I've bought other keyboards, full size, RGB lit, bells and whistles thrown about in the descriptions - they don't feel as nice to use as this little gem. The keys have a slight indent which looks and feels proper, like someone took the time to design this nicely. The whole unit feels solid. It doesn't creak or flex, has good rubber feet underneath, and the color matches well enough with the silvery-aluminum and black keys of the MacBook Pro. It's just about the same size as the keyboard on the MacBook Pro too, funny enough.Illumination is well done with three choices of brightness and access to keyboard functions is pretty simple. A couple of key presses and you can adjust brightness of your computer display or volume as example. The keyboard as a Mac-centric product works VERY well in the Apple OS X environment. I've used it in Snow Leopard, Yosemite and High Sierra versions. I'm assuming it'll work just as well from Mojave through to Sonoma OS versions, but I just haven't felt the need to buy a new Apple product since 2016 so I couldn't reliably verify.Anyhow - Yes, I feel this is VERY well done keyboard. I would recommend it to anyone looking to either replace a stock Mac keyboard with a more petite version that gives you backlit illumination as a perk, or as a sacrificial stalwart against exposing your notebook's keyboard to the grime of life and crumbly bits of regretful late night nibbling.Highly recommended. The Price Point at $40 bucks as bought I find fair considering it works, works well, and seems like it's well built enough I'd expect it to keep working for some time.
Worked well, until it didn't. Lasted almost 14 months. Get the insurance. Had a great feel to it. I write A LOT (as an editor/writer). However, just sent it back and getting reimbursed. Started to do very squirrelly things like add letters, or move them (like spell would be come splle), or they might drop down three sentences... plugged unplugged rebooted (That's their solution btw, reboot the computer. Yeah, no) We also have the full length one for another computer. The insurance covered it. Well worth the $5. HOWEVER ... having to wait 24-72 hrs for the gift card to show up. So, I purchased a cheap Logitech as a back up to now put on the shelf when this happens again (and I'm sure it will). Will probably replace with the non-backup lighted one. I never really needed the light.
Great wired Mac-specific keyboard I like everything about this keyboard, but I particularly appreciate the backlighting. It makes working in low-light conditions a pleasure.I also appreciate the small size (my busy desk has no room for big keyboards.) I generally prefer a mouse to a trackpad, so the lack of a trackpad is no problem for me.
Excellent External Keyboard for my MAC This is a great keyboard and economically priced. Works perfectly. I was having trouble with some of the keys getting stuck on my MAC book pro and so purchased this external keyboard. It's really easy to set up and use. I like the fact that it is very light and compact. Plus the backlight is great. I highly recommend.
Great Keyboard Loving this keyboard. It's such a big improvement over my old Apple keyboard. Saving much more space on my desk. Really like the lighted keys at night and this corded version rather than a bluetooth, battery keyboard. No charging required. And, a big savings over an Apple keyboard.
Read the description-not Bluetooth , not wireless. My bad. Love the keyboard but was mad at myself for not description that it was wired, still love the keyboard and may be better I don’t need batteries or have to charge,
Best wired keyboard SPECIFICALLY for Mac After evaluating many inexpensive keyboards for Mac, this is the best one. The layout of the keys is exactly the same as that of an Apple Magic keyboard - including the sizes of the keys and the spacing between them. It also feels really good. If you're looking for a wired keyboard for your Mac, I don't think you can do any better than this.
Looks a lot nicer in person than in the product photos. The images make it look cheap, but the keyboard is actually very nice. I do some work in a dark environment where I need a lighted keyboard and don't want to deal with charging a keyboard, and this fit the bill perfectly.
best small wired Mac keyboard Size is perfect, keystrokes are just right, lighting and quality of build are fine. This keyboard replaced a bluetooth one that was difficult to use in low light conditions due to aging eyes.
backlit Have to remember to use fn/esc to activate the F-key functions of my mac, but that's the tradeoff for smaller keyboard.Love the backlight! I mostly work by the light of the monitor.I've had a larger MacAlly keyboard for years I love but it irks me that the physical center of the larger keyboard is not the center, and I have to shove it back and forth on my desk. I love it for other purposes, tho, so thanks, MacAlly for dependable keyboards!
Great keyboard for macbook pros I bought this keyboard to use on my macbook pro since that one is so messed up. This one is a perfect match for it, and has a nice weight to it, feeling worth the money in that aspect. However it lasted me exactly 2 years to the day and I haven't been extreme with it or anything so it's a bit disappointing that it didn't last longer for the amount of money I paid. That being said, I do like it enough to buy it again, which I did!
Awesome Keyboard! The keyboard on my 2018 MacBook Pro was starting to go (double typing letters), when a friend suggested looking for a new keyboard instead of replacing my whole computer! Game changer!!! I found this keyboard which matches the space grey of my laptop, and it works amazingly well! I love the adjustable backlight, and the keys feel great - I actually prefer them to the low profile keys on my laptop. It’s a pleasure to write with and I’ve had zero issues or complaints. It has also helped because I can have my laptop screen up higher which saves my neck.
